BERT HINKLER
HIS BODY FOUND IN MOUNTAINS IN TUSCANY. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received this day at 9.10 a.m.) ROME, April 28. Bert Hinkler’s body has been found beside his wrecked machine in the isolated mountainous region of Costal di Sopra, in Tuscany, 4,600 feet high, between Florence and Arezzo.
A passport found cn the body confirmed his identity. It showed the first name was Herbert, the surname being effaced by the weather, but the birth place, Bundabery, was discernable. THE FINDING OF THE BODY. DEEP WOUND ON HEAD. (Received this clay at 11.5 a.m.) LONDON, April 28. A worker proceeding to duty, discovered the body in n barren area, seldom traversed, in the Tuscan mountains, several hours walk from the Caste! Franco di Sopra. There was a deep wound in Hinkler's head, apparently sustained when thrown from his machine as it crashed. The body was almost unrecognisable, atnd was found -one hundred yards, from the machine. Three petrol tanks were empty, and the fourth contained only a little petrol. The oil tank was completely dry. Pieces of wreckages were strewn over a wide area. A watch found on the body had stopped at three o’clock, presumably (ten hours (after leaving I r eltham.
MACHINE FOUND IN FOREST. THREE ALIVE; FIVE DEAD. (Received April 29 at 11.30 a.m.) ROME, April 28. Police and Fascists, searching the Appenines, found an aeroplane in a snow covered forest, five thousand feet above. Cosenza. Five occupants, including the pilot and wireless operator, were dead. Three were alive including a woman passenger. THREE INJURED AT SYDNEY. MACHINE BADLY DAMAGED. SYDNEY, April 28. An aeroplane piloted by James Wear, a prominent aviator, crashed when landing near Mascot aerodrome this afternoon. Two others .were aboard. One, Joseph Cangarri, aged 20, fractured liis right leg, his arm and his nose, and sustained abrasions. The other, Otto Meyer, aged IP, tiircd hifj right thigh, suffered abrasions and shock. The plane \fus returning from a flight over the Harbour Bridge. The mishap occurred through the engine cutting out above Mascot. The aeroplane was badly damaged. It dropped into a muddy field. NEW BRITISH WAR PLANE. LONDON, April 28. The “Daily Telegraph” says than a new experimental fighter aeroplane has been produced for the Air Ministry. It has a speed of 250' miles an hour with full military equipment, and a velocity dive of over 400 miles an hour.
