A HEALTH TRIP

SIR V'A'NSJTTART ho water. AUCKLAND, April 26. Formerly Lord Mayor of London, .Sir Vansittart- Rowater, a prominent London business man and member of Parliament for the City of London., arrived by the Wanganella fioin Sydney. He is on a lieblth recruiting trip, and after spending a few days in Auckland lie will leave by tbe Niagara on Tuesday bn his return to England. Sir Vansit-tiart Bowater was Lord Mayor of London from November 9, 1914, and in tbe first thtee months of the war lie played a leading part in the recruiting campaign and the elaborate! preparations for the dispatch of the British Expeditionary Force to France. He presided at the Guildhall on several historic occasions in the , early part of the war End assisted in raising the: Prince of Wales’ fund of £7,000,000 for war purposes. One of the most picturesque ceremonies he attended in those memorable days was tbe dispatch of the Tenth (London) Battalion of the Roylal Fusiliers. As honorary colonel lie swore in 1200 men in. the moat of the Tower of London, a ceremony which lias not been repeated since. On his present trip he has visited Bombay and Delhi, where he was received by the Viceroy of India, Agra, Calcutta, Colombo, Madras, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Sydney.
