GOLDEN WEDDING

CELEBRATION 'AT SEA. AUCKLAND, April 26. Two visitors from Melbourne, Colonel G. B. Appleton and Mi's Appleton, who arrived by the Wanganella from Sydney, celebrated their golden wedding at sea. In honour of the occasion Captain G. B. Bates had a wedding cake made in the ship s bakery, and on the night before reaching Auckland it was presented to Mrs Appleton at dinner in the saloon. The cake was brought in with 50 candles burning. After blowing out the candles, Mrs Appleton cut the cake and all the passengers in the saloon were offered a slice. Congratulatory remarks were made by Captain Bates and by Sir Vanisitte'rt Bo water, a former Lord Mayor of London, who was a passenger. Colonel Appleton is a, brother of Mr W. T. Appleton, who, before his death, was chairman and managing director of ITuddart-Parker, Limited. The marriage took place in Geelong, Victoria, in 1883.
