OUTBREAK AT KAIPARA
AUCKLAND, April 21
that cases of anthrax had jeeurred among cattle on a farm in jhc North Auckland district were •oufirmed by Dr. C. J. R-eakes, Di-rector-General of Agriculture, who s visiting Auckland. “After «■ long period of immunity rom any cases of anthrax in farm .mimals in New Zealand, said Dr. Henkes, “some cases recently oc•urred on a small farm in the Kaipara district. Immediately the matter became known to officers of the Livestock Division of the Department of Agriculture it was taken in hand and a strict quarantine was imposed on the property. It seems evident that the stops takeii have been successful i' preventing further mortality apart rom tint involved by the original uses. Anthrax dees not spread easily s do diseases like pleuro-pneumonia 01 cot-and-moutb disease. for instance, ■either of which is present in New Zealand.
