FLYING MISHAP
A N.Z. MACHINE DAMAGED DANNEYIRKE, April 22. At 5 p.m. yesterday, in good weather, Flying-Officer J. Buckeridge, and Mr H Preston, ground engineer for the Wnirarapa Aero Club, left Akitio for Dannevirke, the former flying a privatelyowned machine and Mr Preston, the Wairarapa Club’s plane. The journey to Dannevirke usually occupies twenty minutes, lint en route the fivers encountered heavy westerly winds and rain squalls. Darkness came on quickly, pud the planes separated when over the Waitaliora Valley, a few miles from Dannevirke. Mr Preston decided to land on the first available paddock. To doing sc, the machine touched the ground wnilo still in a partial side-slip. The undercarriage was carried away, and the fittings on one wing were damaged. The pilot was unhurt. The machine was dismantled and shipped by lorry to Must or ton to-day. Flying-Officer Bueker.icVe arrived sal’elv in Dannevirke. He landed in the dark at the aerodrome.
