MEETING OF BOARD
The annual meeting was held at Christchurch on Friday. The annual report aiid statement of accounts were adopted, artd the annual meeting theii concluded, members Continuing with the ordinary meeting. Dr W. McKay, of the grounds committee, discussed the question of
improving the grounds, particularly
the beautification of the area between the hostel and the railway station subway. Mr Lockwood reported on the latest progress that had been made by the Ski Club in erecting the mountain hut. Members discussed at length the I future of the ground between the hostel and the station, and on the motion of Mr Lockwood it was decided to approach the City Council and the Domains Board to ask for the loan of Mr M. J. Barnett, superintendent of city reserves,and of Mr J. McPherson, curator of the Botanic Gardens, to prepare a scheme for the work. The chairman and Professors i Wall and Speight were appointed a committee to look after the matter. Mr McAlpine reported that deer were definitely increasing in the park. Professor Wall considered that they were doing little damage, and it was decided to take no further action at present.
The suggestion that the board should ask for a share in the next art union was made by At r Lockwood, who remarked that the Mount Egmont Park Board had recently received £3OOO from an art union. He thought there was every chance that an application from the board for a share would be granted, and he moved that such an application be made at once. The motion was carried, Mr Lockwood and the secretary being appointed to draft the application.
