THE FIRST WOMAN MEMBER
CAPETOWN, April 21
The nominations for the general elections on May 17, have brought few' surprises. Seventv-two constituencies out of 150 will lie contested. All the Ministers, except Mr Grubier, are unopposed, Mr Grobler’s ennenout being Mr Tiolntan Kuos. The first woman member is the wife of Conolen Reitz, who has Loan returi - ed unopposed for Parktown. Thntyeight South African Party and forty Nationalists have been returned unopposed. Koos-ites appear only in Trans, vaal under the banner of the United Coalitionists, arc aiming at the emergence of the two principal parties. Geheral Ilertzcg and LieutenantGeneral J. C. Smuts, in a joint manifest'), warn the j:e r -pk against -attempt* tn sow di-n ord, -es; eei ally the so-called Independents.
