TIMARU, April 23

. Several thousand people attended .the opening of the Catholic Novitiate for the Marist Brother* Order 'at Claremont, ten miles from Timaru, this afternoon.

This is the first Novitiate - to . be established in New Zealand by the Marist Brothers, whose Novitiate hitherto has been in New South Wales. The Novitiate is to be know, n as S*. Joseph’s.

The ceremony of the opening was performed by Archbishop Red wood 5 of Wellington, who was assisted by Bishop Liston (jfackland),' Bishop Rr-odie .(Christchurch), and Brother .Benignus, the New Zealand Provincial of the Marist Brothers, who is the Director of Sacred 'Heart College, Auckland.
