MELBOURNE, April 23. r '"Entei'iWg”'tlie Carlton English, Scottish and Australian Bank just before midday on Saturday, a man threw popper in the eyes of a teller named Frewin, and seized a pile of noted • A ledger keeper,- named Hay - es, noted this action. He drew a pistol, and shot the robber in the chest: The latter fell back.
The notes were scattered. The robber rushed to the door, where Mrs O’Halloran, who had heard the shot, attempted to stop him. The robber punched her and made off, but he collapsed in a nearby lane. He was taken to the hospital, but he died in a few minutes, having refused to give his
name. The teller’s eyes were badly injured. The notes were recovered. The robber is still unidentified.
