ITALIAN MODEL

GERMAN UNIONS REORGANISE

NO LIBERTY ALLOWED

LONDON, April 11

'l’lie “Daily Herald” says that Mr Norman Davis’ outspoken remarks on Herr Hitler and Baron von Neurath regarding Jewish persecution were primarily responsible for the concessions made to Jewish lawyers. Mr Davis emphasised that the Jewish pogrom had caused a disastrous impression in the United States. Me made it plain that leading; financiers in the United States, hitherto l favourably disposed to Germany, would be adamant in refusal to assist while the ill-treatment of Jews continued. Dr Schacht, as President of the Reichsbank, at the same time intervened on behalf; of the Jews.

The “Daily Herald” adds that German messages show that all pretence at the liberty of trade unions is being destroyed. Nazi police attend their meeting and register disapproval of their decisions. Workers’ councils who do not meet with Nazi approval are asked to resign and are replaced by Nazi nominees. Members refusing to resign are arrested and kept in custody until they sign their resignntons. The Nazis are apparently ensidering the replacement of trade unions hy corporations on the Italian model. Goods 'Sheds and Delivery Yards will be closed.
