REHABILITATING INDUSTRY.

(Received April 8 at 8.40 a.m.) LONDON, April 7
An important step to rehabilitate British industries is foreshadowed in the announcement of details of a £200,000,000 scheme to rationalise the iron and steel industry. Associations are being formed to deal with special products like pig iron 'and tin plat's, and will be controlled by a central body incorporated by royal charter. Other details include advisory committees on wages, transport, and research. Income will be derived from an actual levy. The corporation will facilitate desirable amalgamations, promote exports, and negotiate with foreign Governments on behalf of the industries.
Mr Neville Chamberlain writes that the scheme is a real step forward, though only the first stage has been reached, which the Government is ready to support as necessary.
