(Received April 7-., at 11.15. p. 111.) WASHINGTON, April 0.
A sudden-, very sharp, gust of wind, more -severe than any he had over ■experienced wag .given by Mr Wiley, of the Akron, in an official report to the Navy . Department, as the apparent cause of the disaster.
Mr Wilev said that the gust struck ■the, ship as it was lighting the storm off the New Jersey coast. ’“I noted immediately that the lower rudder control rope had been carried away. Deal reported, as he lay in his bunk on the right -side of. the ship, that he saw two girders, above the corridor in the ship bend and buckle, and noted that the control lines in that vicinity ungeared to he slack, but' not broken. Apparently the damage to the girders occurred after the-ship began its last descent, practically out of control.-.
