WELLINGTON, April 5
Referring to-day to his reference at the Chamber of Commerce' •dinner k-ut night- to tire, necessity for further economies, the Hon. G. W. Forbes said that it was obvious that, owing to the marked fall in the revenue' of the country, due very largely to the dron which' had taken place in the price of butter, it would be necessary, during the coming financial year, to put into operation further economy measure:;.
“It is essential,” said Mr Forbes, that the country must remain solvent, and the only way to achieve that is to reduce the expenditure in keeping with the reduction of i evenue.”
Asked if he could indicate what form th,a- economies would take, Mr Forbes '-•aid th it it was too early yet to give details, but there was no doubt that there would have to be a cutting clown of departmental expenditure, which would naturally involve reduction in department's! services.
