TRAFFIC CONTROL

LONDON’S ELABORATE SYSTEM

INAUGURATION OF SCHEME.

(British Official Wireless.)

RUGBY, April 4

What probably is the most elaborate example of automatic traffic control in the world has been inaugurated in Trafalgar Square, London. Traffic control by lignt signals is rapidly extending in London, where every week about 12 new systems are being installed but owing to-the large number of streets converging .on Trafalgar Square and the fact that it is traversed by about 6000 vehicles daily, a. new system has been used, being the most ambitious yet undertaken. A unique feature of the new system is that traffic actually controls itself, according to its need, by msans of detectors laid in the roadway. This system will replace sixteen point duty policemen.
