HOKITIKA ANNUAL MEETING.

REVIEW OF THE PAST SEASON.

The annual meeting of the Hokitika sub-branch of the Pmnket Society was held on Alonday afternoon when the president (Airs B. L. AVilson), presided. The meeting reviewed with satisfaction its year’s \»ork, and present financial position, and the committee look forward to a busy year, in the interests of the babies and mothers of the town and district.

Tlie report stated • that interest in the work of the Society continued to grow in this district, as evidenced by the nurse’s report of increased attendance at the rooms. The year had seen

j considerable activity on the part of the committee, and three special efforts J were made for the Society’s funds, the annual Piunket Ball, a shop day, and ! a dramatic entertainment.

In September it was found necessary to purchase new scales for the accurate, weighing of babies ,and'they were proving most satisfactory. The question of obtaining a Piunket 'Room a'or Hokitika was again discussed, and it was decided to ask the llunanga committee for information regarding their new building. Then followed, a visit of inspection to Ruiianga by three delegates from Hokitika, who were much, impressed by the tasteful and convenient rooms erected there for the Piunket Society.Since thon the Hokitika committee h«d leased a section, and wore working enthusiustical.y to provide a similar building for this district. With this end in-.view a baby contest had been promoted by which it was hoped to raise sufficient funds to erect the rooms. On March 1, the committee entertained the Piunket mothers, babies and friends at a social afternoon when a large attendance gave evidence of keen interest.

On March 15, the committee were pleased to meet-Miss Hoddinott,.administrative secretary of the Piunket Society, from N.Z,- headquarters in Dunedin. Miss Hoddinott gave helpful advice with regard to the, building scheme, and inspected.the site,, which, she-stat-ed was ideal for the purpose.

During the year,,. Nurses Gee and Pritchett visited Hokitika regularly on AVednesdays and Fridays, proceeding to . Ross once a month, and to Harihari once in two months. The branch assure them of tlie .appreciation and gratitude of the mother? .and tlie committee, tor good work faithfully done. Tn this connection thev wished to thank the. motor , . companies for coijrtesy . , in,.conveying, the nurse; the “Guardian” Company for publication of notices, and Airs Naylor for attending to sales of emulsion. Further the branch wished to thank the public of Hokitika and outlying districts for supnort so generously to their appeals. • ■ - - b
