STRATFORD, April 3,
Arise died at the barrier in the Maiden Plate in Saturday races. It was a fancied starter there being 104 tickets for a win, and 13Tfor a place. Betters lost money on eight horses in the race.
When brought to the barrier, Arise reared and Was'kicked on the head by another horse. Arise stumbled, and in the act of falling was kicked again on the head and over-the heart, and died immediately, the skull being fractured, and the brain actually protrud-
M. J. Pine, the rider of Seatown, which fell in the Autumn Handicap, sustained concussion and a broken collarbone. He spent a. comfortable night in' the' hospital. Seatown was badly cut about-the hocks and may have to postpone its Auckland trip.
