About thirty delegates were present at the National Council of Women’s Conference. The council has nine branches with a membership of 37,600 and there a re 164 affiliated societies.'j ho activities last year were- outlined ia the secretary's report. It- was stated that some centres -and branches liad taken a* l active part in assisting ,miemployed women and girls. Resolutions had been sent to the proper authorities' in regard to many matters, including illicit sale of liquor, nationality of married women, appointment of a woman on the Unemployment 1 Board, a protest against the sale- of pernicious literature, and btliei sub- • jects. In her presidential address, Miss R. E. Carnachan eaid that the study of modern affairs showed clearly that the nations of the world were inextricably bound together, and that they must build their hopes on a common solution. To do this they must have an international understanding and the members of the National Council of Women should take a lead in bringing this about. They were working for the future. They might never see the fruits of their labour, but. they could rest assured that the effects of their work would be more colossal tlmn they could possibly imagine. Bhe was wire the Society was working along right lines, but they must realise the immense importance of tire task winch must be attempted willingly, earnestly and humbly.
