66,650 ARE NOW REGISTERED

The unemployed registrations in N e w Zealand at March 18 numbered 66,650. T|his in an increase of 807 compared with the returns one month earlier. According to a statement issued by th e Unemployment Board, of the 66,652 a total of 5585 men were ineligible for relief, thus 'leaving a total ,of 61,067 .men a charge cn the Board's funds. Of'thea'e: it -was estimated that at least 29,500 were engaged on work of a definitely ..reproductive and development'] nature in connection with primary industry.The following., shows the way in which men in work were --engaged : Camp scheme—Land improvement and development, 2175; Highways and back. Idocks roads, 2264; affore s tatkm (mc, 3 tly 'State Forest ..Service), 409; building scheme -subsidy, 1808 ; gold prospecting schemes (exclusive .of 1762 men’ prospecting, under 'Scheme- No. 5) 455; miscellaneous (subsidised employment in various industries), 370; total, '61,067. ...... .. : ■-
