N.Z. ECONOMIC QUESTION.

AUCKLAND, March 28

The. Prime Minister, with Mrs Forbes and three of their family, arrived here by-the limited express this afternoon, .and he immediately went to a .luncheon given in his honour by the Auckland Chamber 0 f Commerce.

The president, Mr Harvey strongly urged that the state and municiai; trading concerns should be placed on the same taxation basis as that of private enterprises. In his reply, Mr Forbes defended Orders-in-Council, which, he said, were inevitable under modern conditions. He described the response to the debt conversion appeal as magnificent. He agreed, that administrative economy was essential, but said that people appeared to overlook what had been done and that the field for future economies was restricted.
