SALES TAX ACT
THE LICENSING OF RETAILERS.
DELAY IN GAZETTING
(Per Press Association Copyright.)
WELLINGTON, March 27
In connection with tlie licensing ox wholesalers' and manufacturing retailers, under tne Sales Tax Act, it is announced that unforseen difficulties have arisen which have delayed the gazetting of, the necessary regulations and prescribing forms to be used.
Mr Coates states that the Government is desirous that the particulars required by the forms should as far as possible be readily obtained from visiting the accounting books of various classes of taxpayers concerned. This lias necessitated a considerable amount of inquiry and a- consequent delay in the issuing of tlie regulations. It is expected that the regulations will be issued at an early date, but in view of the circumstances indicated, no action will be taken by the Government merely; because persons have not been duly- licensed, provided that applications for licenses are received by the collectors of sales tax within twenty-one days after the gazetting of the regulations.
