GRAIN EXCHANGE MAY GO EAST.

The - “Winnipeg Press” states that the transfer of the Winnipeg Grain Exchange and trading facilities to Fort William or to Port Arthur, is being seriously discussed by prominent members of . the exchange. A threat of increased provincial taxation gave rise to this talk. The fact that the province of Ontario does not levy income tax, and that great bulk storage capacity for grain is located at the head of the lakes, are the main arguments for the changfe of headquarters. All the grain sold in the Winnipeg pit is sold on a Fort Willittin basis. It/is estimated that the movement would mean the migration of from ..ten to fifteen thousand people from Winnipeg to the Ontario twin cities, while other business affiliated with the grain trade here, would also be likely to move east-
