Mr Maws'On intends returning; -to England. •Referring to Mr fYfawson's resignation, the Minister 0 f Internal Affairs stateslt i>;. incorrect to say, as published -that there has 1 been' any disagreement in respect of town planning policy, 'beyond the fact that retention of the Director o-f pawn Planning at a salary of £I2OO a year, not subject t 0 reductions imposed by the National Expenditure Adjustment Act, was felt to be a somewhat expensive luxury at a time when neither the Government nor .the local 'bodies were In a position to sperl'd money in connection with regional and town planning. Th e Minister added that in July last Mr Mawson desired an assurance that he would be appointed for a further term at the termination of hi s con-' tract, and that' flier, e be a reasonable prospect of the Government embarking on an active - policy of regional and town planning in the near future. As these assurances could not be given, Mr Alawson asked -to be released from office on condition that he was paid £3CO towards the cost of transporting his family to London.
