LAWN TENNIS
AUSTRALIA TOUR OF U.S.A.
ARRANGEMENTS NOW COMPLETE
NEW YORK, March; 23
The Australian Press Association representative here learns that arrangements have been completed for the tour of an Australian tennis team to the United States, following the team’s play at Wimbledon. They would play at important Eastern tournaments in America, including the national doubles and singles, ancT negotiations are proceeding for a senes of trans-continental exhibition matches in such cities as Chicago, St. Louis and Kansas City, with California players, who would then be proceding home by easy stages from the East to arrive in time for the Pacific Coast Championships in the early autumn, in which the Australians would also participate. It is reported that Australian participation ip this ■ tour depends on agreement about the question of expenses from the gate receipts. The Californian tennis authorities thus far have been,,Reluctant: to share, these expenses. These exhibitions, now being a fixture of some years’ standing, are said to have been made attractive gate propositions by Californian players in the past. It ia contended, however, that the gate receipts would probably bo greatly increased by the participation of the Australians, much interest being aroused in America in young McGrath’s style, and he is expected to be a special drawing card.
