(United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.)
AGUA CALIENTE, March 23
With the 2.500 Dollar Handicap only ten days away, the track here is busy with thoroughbreds training for the classic. Pillow Fight, the New Zealander, ticked off six furlongs in 1.13 3-5, with 1351bs up, on Thursday. Cuthbert Morse, who is training Pillow Fight, is highly pleased with the New Zealander’s last race, although Pillow Fight was beaten by Gallant Sir and Old Depot at a mile 'and 70 yards. “I told the jockey not to abuse Pillow Fight, but to let him make his pace in seven furlongs. Pillow Fight was not ready for a long race, and I am not sure that he will reach his best form here; but he has satisfied me that at seven furlongs he is even with Gallant Sir,” Morse said. Gallant Sir, who is favourite for the race on Thursday, worked a mile in 1.41 4—5, with a. stablemate. The big four-year-old was a sulky worker, and he refused to break until put into the chute, The best work to-day is said to have been done by The Nut, a Kentucky importation, who, the railbirds claim, did a mile in 1.40 1-5, and a mile and ono-eightll in 1.54.
