HITLER’S BILL

BERLIN, March 24. Chancellor Hitler, in the Reichstag referring to foreign affairs, said: “We accept Signor- Mussolini’s far-siglited plan. We are ready, sincerely and peacefully, to collaborate with Britain, Trance and Italy. We earnestly desire to avoid any increase of arms. Germany wants nothing more than equal rights and equal freedom/ We
are ready to stretch out our hands m a spirit of understanding to eii&h nation which is prepared to wipe the slate clean of- the sad past.” He said he was convinced that agreements can be reached wit h if the problems are tackled vigorously. Herr Hitler concluded by demanding the passage of the Enabling Bill, and he was frantically applauded.
The Socialist leader, Herr Weis, in opposing the Enabling Bill said: “You can take our liberty and , our lives, but not our honour!”
Herr Goering dened the . atrocity stories that had been published abroad. He pointed out that no synagogue u, Jewish cemetery had been desseerated. The Enabling Bill was carried by 441 to 94 votes.
All of the parties except the Socialists supported the. Bill. The Reichstag then adjourned indefinitely. Herr Hitler appeared on the balcony, and he was acclaimed by a .multitude of the Storm Troops. He announced the acceptance of the Bill. , “The first chapter of our movement has closed. > The second chapter now begins,” he said. The Reich council, representing the States of Germany, hag unanimously approved of the Enabling Bill. Herr Severing (Socialist) was arrested outside of the Reichstag, but he was allowed to vote against the Enabling Bill. .He was escorted by two detectives. Then he was .taken to gaol. i
The German' Government is instructing the German ambassadors to protest against the publication of atrocity stories abroad, and it- declares that, •while some acts of terrorism occurred at the beginning of the “ National Revolution,” the violence has now practically ceased. , • Doctor Gunther Gereke, a Nationalist member of the, Cabinet,, who is a Reich’s Commissioner of Employment, : has been arrested at the instance of Herr Goering on suspicion of a breach ,of trust and .pL.embezzlement. ; <• Karl Arthur, the Duke of Snxe-Co-burg, who is an ardent Nazi and is. a cousin of King. George,- has, been/'.appointed as the State , Commissar of Automobllism, nnc) also the chairman of,a special committee for the promotion of the motorisation of Germany. The Duke of Saxe-Coburg was born find educated in England.

The treatment of the Jen’s in . Germany is attracting increasing attention. The British Board of Jewish deputies will meet in a special session on Sunday to discuss the. German situation, and to decide what action is possible.
To-day’s issue of the “Jewish Chronicle” contains an editorial advocating a boycott of German goods. The “Daily Express” correspondent says: “Germany is a heavy borrower on foreign money markets, where the Jewish influence is considerable. A movement ia afoot among Jewish financiers to exert pressure against the persecutors. It is reported two more Jews were brutally murdered in Berlin, allegedly by Communists. In the East End of London the Jew s have begun a boycott of German goods. One Jewish' warehouse - has cancelled an order for fourteen thousand pounds worth of German goods, and has transferred the order to America. ! ' '
The fur trade also is being asked to discontinue the handling of German products.
Some of the Jewish bakers are abandoning the handling of German flour.

LONDON, March 23
The Paris correspondent cf. the' Manchester Guardian says there is intense ■and growing anxiety about the fate of well-known German Republicans, including Dr. Breittsheid, Dr. Hertz and Dr. Hilferding. It is known that Dr. Hertz, who was the German ,Socialist Party’s economic expert, was arrested, but many days have elapsed without further news.
The famous Liberal pacifist, Herr von Gerlach, is also missing. “The . civilised has r. right to know what has happened to these distinguished meti,” adds thei correspondent.
