GOLD IN BOULDERS
DISCOVERY AT COROMANDEL.
CLAIM BY COUNTY COUNCIL

The question of the ownership of the. large boulders in which gold was discovered last month at Coromandel has been temporarily settled. Both the boulders lie adjacent to the Ijp.spital, one outside a. side gate, and the. other about 20ft a Winy, . The Coromandel County Council has taken an interest in the find and claims that the stones are on the county road, one in Main Street, and the other m James Street. To-day county workmen were busy removing one stone to the Union Beach battery of ter putting several charges of explosives in it to break it up. It was found that the boulder was lying ■on two others of the same nature ,aud these will also, be broken up and taken to the battery.
A large quantity of the stone was exhibited at the County Council’s meeting to-clay and members inspected the site of the find. Two tributers are still working to the south cf the find orj private land. They have unearthed more stone, all said to s how good vqlues. The goldfield revenue received by tbo xmiity for January ant February totalled £9 2s 2d.
