For the first test, New Zealand v. there is line weather and a huge crowd. The English team is:—Jardine, Wyatt, Allen, Brown, Sutcliffe, Hammond, Tate, Verity, Ames, Voce, Pavnter. .England won the toss and batted. • There was an immediate sensation. Sutcliffe was caught by James, first Lallj off Badcoek. Hammond was the incomer and then Smith's first ball bowled Pavnter. Wyatt was the incomer, and carried on With Hammond. Both were enterprising with fine (placements, until, in attempting a run, Wyatt slipped and Was run out. Three for -16. Jardine was next and was ovatioried. B uns came steadily. Both got set and at luncheon the score was 3 for 04. Hammond was in 38, Jardine in 31, and extras 5.
