SOVIET CONCERN
BRITAIN’S ACTION CRITICISED.
(United Press Association—Py Electric Teiugi pu—Copyrigntj
MOSCOW, March 20.
Criticism of what 4s termed Britain’s “high handed attitude” in suspending trade negotiations with Russia is heard, even ,in some, foreign circles, which declare that .Britain is treating Russia like some unimportant country, whereas ; the Soviet leaders consider themselves to be an important "World Power. The feeling, it is urged, will be stronger if Britain, demands the unconditional release of thosp ariestcd.
Pending instruction© from London, Sir Esmond Ovey, British Minister, has not replied .to the Soviet’s hint concerning the release of, the Soviet’s Vickers engineers on bail.
SOVIET’S. CRIMINAL CODE
REVISION IS ADVOCATED
RIGA,., March 21
M. Krylenko, the Soviet-Commissar ‘of Justice, addressing ■a .conference of Judges at -Moscow, •demanded the urgent revision/of the criminal code, which he said was inadequate to deal with the new state class war.
M.-Krylenko appeared to be annoyed because the code "he presented in 1931 has not yet been promulgated. The death penalty, figuring in the 1926 code only as a-temporary measure, receives a new.,tease of life in M. Krylenko’s qode, which demands execution within seventy-two hours after- sentence. These alterations do not effect the O.G.P.U. which usually inflicts the death' penalty before" publishing the sentence. M. Dryshinsky, the Supremo yPrcsecutor, who presumably prosecutes the Vickers Coy. .engineers also, demanded the promulgation of the Code.
