COMMITTEE MEETING. The Commitee of the above Club met at th c Club room, Hamilton Street, at 8.10 p.m. yesterday. Present; Messrs F. McG.egor (chair), R. Whiley, A. AV. larrali, C. J. P. Silers, J. J. Breeze, H. But land, M. Houston, j. Mclntosh junr., H. T: P-rry and D. j. Evans. Apologies wer e received from Messrs J. J. Mclntosh s.nr., and W. E. Williams.

•Letter was received from C. W. Spence, thanking the Club .for remitting surcharge.
3ZR thanked, the Club for a donation •to the broadcasting service. Thc Racing Conference notified (1) Exemption from the provision,*: of. rule 237 for the autumn meeting ; '(2) Notifying the appointment of H. T. C. Gower as Ch.ef Stipendiary. Steward; (3) Asking for nominations fo r District Committee and District Representative; (4) Notifying u ew. form of application for relief by an employee; (5) Urging signing of petition to Parliament praying for legislation to permit the use. of the double totalizator, the telegraphing of and the publication oi the dividends ; (6) Notifying . additional tfagulation respecting the ua e of win and place machines.—Rec&ived. With respect to incminaticdis for the Greymeuth District Cuiwnittse, Messrs Tt, Whiloy and D, ,J, Evape were pro* posed, Regarding the Conference irict Representative, Mr Evans declining nomination, and Mr 0. W, Spacer of Reefton was nominated, In regard to the petition to Parlia-. ment, the secretary reported the documerit was despatJo*.! to Mr O’Brien M.P., to present,. A reply was received from Mr O’Brien stating h e would present the petition and have much pleasure in supporting, it through the Committee and when- reported back to the House.—Received with thanks. WIN AND PLACE MACHINES. A quantity of 'correspondence was. i-ead regarding the working of the win and place machines. y ~ • . Reports were received from Mr . H. •Lynch of Christ church,,, regarding the working of the in. Canterbury; also from Mr W. Shannon in reference to North Island meetings, and race card l 3 were supplied showing the operations in detail.
It was reported Mr Lynch had a.: spare machine which colud be used for the win investments, and the Club’s machine would be used for the place iTt was explained that two machines were necessary. Tlhe win machine would pay out one dividend only, on the first placed horse.; t - 'Fo r five, six or ..seven starters the place machine will pay two dividends—on the first and second* horses. For eight or mor e hors a? start., ing, there will be three place dividend® on first, second and third horse/ lu races where there are •: four or l,esst starters only one dividend, will be paid, and all investments : will be recorded on ‘‘one machine. " 1 •
Th 3 matter was discussed -from various points. . It- was. explained the second; machine which could be tised for the. existing machine, on the sam e level, and the cost of installation would not bet large. The meeting favoured th e in-
stallation and it was resolved to write to Mr Lynch in respect to terms, and if satisfactory, to have the necessary arrangements made, .
GENERAL. ' The matter of including two trotting events in the Christmas programme was. discussed, and it was resolved to write: the Westport Trotting Club and places a proposal befor e the Club, and if necessary a email deputation to wait on that Club and discuiss the proposals. Races of the 2.28 class were sugg^-sred. It was resolved to extend the closing of nominations for the Easter meeting from the 6th April to Monday, 10tn April, so that owners at the Westport meeting oould be seen personally. The finances of. the Club were discussed in some detail, and the treasurerand the president are to confer on thematter. . • -■ j It was decided to hold a race ball/on Tuesday,. April 18th, at the Soldiers’ Hall, and Mr Parry was deputed to make the - n ecessary-ari'angemnt-s for'the function. '' ‘The meeting' closed-at 9.45 olclock.
