BOROUGH COUNCIL TO RESUME. TRIBUTE TO COMMISSIONERS. WELLINGTON, March 6, The Prime Minister, {Mr Forbes, .stated to-day that in view of the fact , that the Hawke’s Bay Earthquake Act, 11931, provided for the .election of Mayor land councillors for the borough oi Napier to be held ou the first Wednesday in May next, the Government proposed to issue an .Qrder-iu-Coyncil under that Act determining the operations of the special committee which had been administering the affairs of the borough since appointment immediately after the earthquake. This Qrcler-in-Council would provide htat the epm--1 mittee shall cease to function as from the first Wednesday following the election of the new Mayor in May, in terms 'of the Municipal Corporations Act, 1920. Mr Forbes stated that lie bad sept communications to the borough commissioners, Mr J. S. Barton, S.M., chairman, and Mr L. B. Campbell, expressing the Government’s appreciation of the valuable services performed by them in the administration of the aifairs of the borough during the stressful period through which it had passed since being stricken by the earthquake. “Tt must be a source, of gratification to veu olid your colleagues as it is to the Government,” concluded the Prime. Minister in his letter to Mr Barton, “that during the your term of office tbe restoration and rehabilitation of the ten'll have been so successfullye carried out, and T am confident this satisfactory condition of affairs is'due in. ho •small measure to the work performed by yourself and.Mr Campbell.”
