. A liaison between the late M. Brij and, former PVeiriier of France, and a lady friend, is being made public in the courts.
Mine. Jeanne Nbuteau, wife of a Nantes banker, is suing. M. Briand’s nephew and executor, M. Billaud, for 150,000 francs (nominally' £1200), or, 'alternatively, an annual, payment of "18,009 francs (£144) for life. She declares that she left her husband 'in .1898 for) M. Briand, then a rising barrister and journalist, and that the ’ affair lasted until 1905. Her counsel cajms. that she ruined lier&elf on , M,. Briand, who supported her 'until lie died,- Jiut unaccountably excluded her from bis will, leaving her penniless. < M.' Blllaudi declares that M. Briand occasionally helped Mine. Nouteau financially after the liaison ended but that there was nip legal obligation.
