PREVENTION OF FORCED SALES. (Per Press Association — Copyright.) INVERCARGILL, February 24. Drastic measures to prevent forced sales of farm property as a result oi the depression were advocated by representatives of certain members of the Farmers’ Union in the Nightcaps district at a meeting of the Southland Provincial Executive of the Union this morning.. The following plaints were introduced: — “That, in the event of a forced sale of a fanner’s land, stock, and equipment, all member’s of the Farmers Union retrain from bidding and endeavour to influence non-members to co-operate.” “That members view with concern the probability of many capable farmers being driven off their properties, and request that union members view any such action as meriting the iso atfjon of any individual dr concern offending in such matters.” After a discussion in committee, the following amendment was passed: (a) “That all possible pressure be brought to bear upon the Government to extend the present legislation to prevent all deserving farmers _n e present crisis from being put off their (b) “That it be a recommendation t 0 all branches to set up vigilance com‘mittees to go thoroughly into every apparent case of hardship and take the necessary step to secure full and fair consideration for all concerned.”
