(Received this day at 10.35 a.m) BRISBANE, February 27
The sequel to the interception of the Japanese giant sampan by the Customs authorities occurred at the Thursday Island police court when S, Kopiato, the captain, was fined £lO for a breach of the Customs Act. The case involved Komato’s failure to answer customs signals. According to advice received by the Collector of Customs, the vessel, of eighty-six tons, left Formosa in December for the Caroline Islands, but engine trouble necessitated a visit to Zamboanga in the Philippines. It was then decided to visit- Australia for adventure and pleasure. Three, tons trochus shell worth £2OO, was found aboard.
