Mr J. O. Shearer, M.A., of Auckland, has bepn appointed lecturer in economic* at Otago University. Air Shearer in 1924, a member of the AA'.E.A. class, was awarded a University bursa, y. While at the University he worked as a laboratory caretaker, and also as a cleaner at the art gallery to pay his way. > The climax of a brilliant academic career was when he was awarded a (research fellowship at Cambridge whence he returned last year.
