Tho New Zealand National Swimming OhgmpioushiPo opened at Napier on Saturday evening, under perfect conditions. The 100yds. Men’s Championship resulted in. an excellent race, with R. Frankham (Auckland) winning by two feet- from W. Whareaitu (South Auckland). E. McConville, of Canterbury, was very close up third, while A. Thomas, of Auckland, did not receive a place. The 220yds. Ladies’ Championship title rihnuged hands. Mias At. Ley-don (Auckland), who swam great races, defeated the title holder, Miss M. Farqnhar (Auckland) by one yard in one second over the record time. Tlie 150yds. Backstroke Championship went to G. Low (Canterbury), who was never troubled. L. J. Moorhouse '(Canterbury), the reeoi'd and title holder, could not compete owing to indisposition. I). P. Lindsay. (Canterbury) bad no t|joublo, in retaining bis mile ffitle from A. T. S'-okes (Canterbury) • gaining a yard every length. A gi eater degree of consistency was the reason for R. C..
