A fire at Sunnier seriously threatened a group of our Cottages at the intersection of Arnold Street and Wakefield Avenue,, near the Anglican Church. Starting as a lftpin fire '«a a section wjiere. a heavy growth had recently been cut, it b f azed furiously in the strong nor’-wester and burned two six-foot paling fences, one within five feet of the residence oil All’s Bibbley, who was away from home. Knowing that Airs Bibbley’s pedigre pug dogs were in the threatened building, All's Jowett,. a neighbour, forced an entrance thro'pgh: a >vindow and rescued the six terrified animals.
The Sumner Fire Brigade was smartly on the scene, and at once cut down the paling fducje- adoining the - house. By peaus of beaters and a. .good supply of water the firemen soon had the? blaze under control. The-vacant section was swept clean by 'the flame's, and two .chains of t paling - fencing -had to be destroyed. ... • ...
