DEPOSITS INCREASE
MONEY PAID INTO SAVINGS BANK GREATER THAN WITHDRAWALS. WELLINGTON, Feb. 14. Last month the Post Office Savings deposits exceeded the Witii- : drawals by £25,000, and for the present month the withdrawals, which are usu- | ally heavy at the beginning of the 'month, have been very small indeed. | This information was given, to the j House this afternoon by the PostI master-Goneral, the Hon. Adam Hamil- • ton, in reply to an urgent question by |Mr R. A. Wright. | Mr Wri gilt asked if the Postmaster-' j General could say whether the deposits ! in the Post Office Savings Banks were j still being heavily drawn upon by deI positors who found themselve s financial,|v embarrassed. Replying, Mr 'Hamilton said that for many months ! the deposits in the Post Office Savinhs ■Banks did not equal the withdrawn Is j hut, in view of (lie widespread depression, this was expected. Since July of last year the position had been improving steadily, no doubt owing to 'depositors attempting to make provisio for further depression.
