TELEGRAPHING BETS.
A NEW PLYMOUTH PETITION.
NEW PLYMOUTH, Feb. 15
The Taranaki Jockey Club is enlisting the aid of the pubJic in its endeavour to secure legislation permitting the introduction of the double totaiisator, the telegraphing of investments to totalisators, and the publication of dividends. At the New Plymouth racecourse on Saturday, signatures were invited to a petition to Parliament on the question. It is stated that although the petition was before iiifie people for a comparatively short time, and the task of securing support was frequently interrupted by rain, about 600 signatures were obtained, CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. -5.
Mr F. T. H. Bell, the secretary ofthe Canterbury Jockey Club, stated this morning that the Canterbury Jockey Club had not made any move in direction as yet and it was probable that any representations made to the Government would be directly from the club without public aid being enlisted.
