•It was stated by his counsel, Mr ’Sullivan, that several years ago Schluter had given information to ’ tha polices regarding another criminal. His actio. tt in thus assisting the police became* known to other prisoners in Mount Eden Gaol, some of whom had .gone oufc of their way to ill treat him. It was because of this ill treatment he had decided to escape. Mr Sullivan referred to a police report denying the prisoner’s allegations; “I would ask Your Honour to disregard the reference in the rep ol 't about wireless sets and that a screwdriver was found in- Sch.ulter’s room,” continued Mr Sullivan. “In prison, Schulter was looked upon as the. man-, responsible for wireless sets being; found in. possession of prisoners, but; there is something, more hi it than the) suggestion by the police.” Schluter was sentenced to two years’ in addition to his present terms.
