Answering a question in the House of Commons, the Secretary of State for India, Sir Samuel Hoare, said that at the end of January the gold held in India’s gold standard , a nd paper currency reserves amounted aLout £33,250,000, valued at par, in addition to a sterling holding of £25,750.000.
Further strengthening, of itl'.e reserves had been accepted as the object of the Government’s policy, but the precise etops to he taken to that end would defend upon circumstance'. In the past- twelve months, they had been strengthened by £15,500,000.
