The step, arose from a warning that the Germantown Tmej-s Club, of Philadelphia, one of th e oldest tennis clubs in th t » country, would be compelled to disband unles-s it- could augment its funds through -some 'important tournament likely to bring considerable -gate receipts. The Association had l° n g .resided the open tournament idea.
