A wintry hurricane that, swept Newfoundland over the week-end caused widespread damage in the flood-strick-en villages along the shores of the .Bay of iSt. George. The Catholic. Church «t Highland.-! was blown into the hay, The hurricane carried destruction and suffering into Sandy Point and other villages where the fisher folk were toiling to repair the damage caused by gales and the tidal wave last week. .It was impossible to estimate the damage because communication lias been cut off.
Fears are he'd for the safety of fishermen at Sandy Point, Boone Bay, and Stephensville, where Thursday’s tidal wave, and Friday’® cold blast from the north-west made many homes uninhabitable, and destroyed vegetables, and filled wells with sai't water. ‘They were imuljuisibiiig themselves when the hurricane came. Driving snow and high winds defeated the efforts in neighbouring villages in preparing to assist 'Sandy Point. It is feared that another high tide in the Bay of St. 'George would add death to destruction.
