Continued hoa-vy rains in the Herbert and .areas caused tlie Herbert and Truly rivers to rise steadily. The former is six. feet over thebridge at Herbert on, and the Tully is nine feet over the Tully bridge. Flood conditions prevail along the Be lenden plains, where the railway line is submerged to a depth of three feet for a considerable distant. . As the western mail train tvastjiTproachiiiiv a flooded creek near .Marathon the bridge over the water collapsed hut the train stopped in time. Breakdown gangs have been unable to reach the disabled train because ot further washaways on either side.
