HOSPITAL BOARD DEPUTATION.

A deputation from the Westland Hospital Board, including Messrs W. J elmes, G. Davidson, T. vV. Dulf and it. W. Heenan, accompanied by Dr. IS. L. Wilson, visited bouth Westland yesterday and interviewed residents at' Waitalia, regarding a medical service lor the district, which was now unprovided for since the departure of dr jjcn at- the end of last year. .at Wataroa, tney met members of the booth e Westmtid Medical Association, neaued uy Mr J. Mr out that the Board had made every effort to get a resident doctor, but, owing to tlie nuaUoiai position, they had ueen unab.e to secure the services of a man for the uisirict. jplo outlined a plan whereby im-y coll id avail tiieniseives of the services of a docton who would visit the district twice a mouth, thereby enabling them to receive regular visits . on definite dates. He ,said that tne suOsidy required from the residents would he in the vicinity of £IS(J per annum, instead of £2OO as in the past. Dr. Wiison said that t-ey had obtained the services of a highly qualified mail, a Dr. Oakey, of Invercargill,, who would arrive in Hokitika in tne . course of a week or two. This would enaule a regular medical service to be availed of by residents south of Ross. The deputation then went on to Hadhari where they were met by Mr J. J. McKay, member of the County Council, and other residents and. •placed the matter; before them. Later they visited Waitaha and again discussed the question with the reddents. Considerable discussion took place at each centre, and it was finally decided that the Board supply full particulars of its proposal which would be placed before the residents at each centre for further discussion.
