The match between AI.C.C. and New South Wales was continued to-day in very sultry weather. The wicket was Alri-etcd by rain, followed by n .hot sun. it.immeiid and Verity dismissed the -remaining;, five New South Wales batsmin for 1 the, addition of only eleven runs. Hammond took 3 for 3 this morning, and Verity 2 for 8. Both made the ball lift awkwardly from the Ditch. The innings lasted 195 minutes. Rowe batted 82 minutes, and hit five boundaries.
\Y>att and Pataudi opened for England, and there was -an early thrill for the spectators when Pataudi was out in the second over, caught at short fine leg, where Love and Hill also lost tlmir wickets.
Wyatt opened his shoulders and executed some forceful cover drives, to the fence, but at thirty-four lost Hammond, who was well caught in the outfield. Howell then had 2 for 12. The wickets had improved after inn eh and Wyatt and Verity carried the score along at a steady rate, adding fifty in fifty-eight minutes, Wyatt, who was subdued facing Howell and Hill, reached half a century in ninety-five minutes.
The third wicket fell at 106, when Verity was also caught at short fine leg. He had shown strokes of a class batsman. Wyatt soon followed, being out in his usual fashion, leg before. Then without addition to the total, Cliilvers uprooted Ante’s middle stump. lit a partnership of twenty-three minutes, Leyland and Brown added forty-five. Both pulled. Cliilvers for lofty sixes, and both were taken on the fence in attempting another such hit. Both hit four fours and a six.
.The tail enders of the English team failed, and the side was out after 165 minutes. The batting and fielding of the New South Wales team were definitely superior to that] of England.
In New South Wales’ second innings, Fingletcn again failed to get going, but Brown was batting nicely when stumps were drawn. The attendance was 8,329. n:>
