YOUNG MAN’S FALL

MISHAP IN SHALLOW WATER

AUCKLAND. January 21.

As the result of a fall into v.ery shallow wate,. at Mission Bay yesterday afternoon John Carpenter, aged 18, .of 21 Union Street, .received concussion and abrasions.

ATJOLAN'D, January 26.

.Returning; home at, 9 o’clock last nio'ht, Mr O. M. Emanuel, of Reniuern,' found a tail man going through the pickets of his clothing in the hall. A struggle ensued and Emanuel was joined by his two sons. A further struggle occurred in the drive, and the man was held pending the arrival of the ,'Dolice.

This morn ins William Preston, aged 46, a. carter, was remanded for a week, on a charge of breaking and entering, and stealing a pair of gold sleeve links.

YOUNG MAN KILLED.

DEATH FROM A BROKEN NECK.

WANGANUI, January 24

A fatal motor-car accident occurred in the early hours of this morning, when a five-seater car, driven by Mr Walter Naughton Grantham, aged 25, left the road a mile, and a-half on the Wanganui side of Kai-iu'i and plunged down a hill. Mr Grantham was thrown out. He received a broken neck and was killed. The owner of the car is Mr Stanley Joseph Eriksen, a Patea County Council surfaceman, residing at Moumahaki, who was the only other occupant. He \va s thrown out of the car, but was only slightly injured. Mr Grantham was a former Flock House hoy. He had been unemployed, but was to strn-t work as a shepherd to-morrow. It is understood that the only relative alive is his mother, who resides at Whitby, Hull, England.
