motor-car on pontoon. OPOTIKI, January 25. The Bishop of Aotearoa, Bishop Bennett, returned to Opotiki on Saturday after a visit to the East Coast, xle was accompanied by Mr W. Rangi. Arriving at the Rnukokore River the travellers found the river very high, a nd, being unable to delay any longer, the bishop got several willing Maoris t 0 build a pontoon of benzine drums with heavy ropes attached to each end. When the car was proceeding across the river excitement was caused by one rope breaking, but, with great care, the car was safely landed with the engine badly flooded.
