THEFT OF HANDBAG

CASE AT POINT CHEVALIER.

ATTACK BY MAN AND WOMAN.

AUCKLAND, January 25,

A daring case of bag-snatching occurred at Point Chevalier when Mrs Mary Eileen Spires, of Boscawen Avenue, was robbed of her handbag by a man who was accompanied by a woman. Mrs Spires had never seen her assailants before, but she had ample opportunity to note their appearances, as they walked along the street with her under the street,, JLiglit- before the attack was made. '

Mr s Spires was returning heme at about 9.30 on Thursday night, when she was accosted by two strangers at the corner of Boscawen Avenue. They asked to be directed to a nearby address and walked down the street with her, chatting as they walked. There were no other pedestrians in the street at the time and when they had reached a. comparatively dark spot, the man suddenly snatched Mrs Spires bag. Almost before Mrs Spires had time to call out, the man and his companion had made off down the road, and they were seen hoarding a tranicai bound from . Point Chevalier to the city.

Mrs Spires’ bag contained several pounds, together with papers Mid other articles. She immediately reported the matter to the police and gave a description of her assailants. She was uninjured, except for minor bruises and scratches on her arms.
