REBATE IN FARMERS’ RATES

WELLINGTON, January 25
The Government has not decided to grant a rebate of 25 per cent, on County Council rates this year. A rumour has been curreiß it! was proposed to take this course as a further measure of assistance to farmers, the" source of money being the Main Higtiwav Funds.
The subject was mentioned t«< the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes to-day. “The Minister of Finance, Rt. Hon. Mr Coates, lias not had time to go into that quasi ion yet,” replied Mr Forbes. “He has just taken over the portfolio, an,] lie will require some time in order to go thoroughly into the whole financial position. So far the Government has decided nothing in regard to this matter.”
