ACCIDENT AT FRANZ JOSEF. LADY’S HEROIC ASSISTANCE. To traverse miles of dangerous ice country, with her attention divided between negotiating a successful passage, and the assistance of heir guide who had sustained a broken leg was the grim experience which befell Miss Ida Corrv, an English visitor to the Franz Josef Glacier, on Tuesday, The guide, Mr Mark Lysons, who has had much alpine experience, and Aliss Carry, who is one of the foremost lady alpinists in the world, and a member of the famous English Alpine Club, set out from the GlacieY Hotel, and after several hours’ steady climbing, during which excellent progress was made, the pair were nearing the main divide at the head of the Franz Josef Glacier, when Guide Lysons slipped while negotiating a crevasse and sustained a fractured leg. Aliss Carry promptly went to liis assistance, and then undertook the onerous and difficult task of aiding the injured mail down the Glacier. Hie going was naturally slow and was fraught with danger. The hours dragged by, but progress was made until they were within five miles of the Aylmer Hut. Aliss Corry left Lysons liege, after attending to his • comfort, and set out for the hut alone.

Aleanwliile, Guide J. Fluety had packed out from the Hostel for the Hub with the object of relieving Ly» sons. He reached the hut, but after waiting for some time, and becoming Uneasy at the absence of the pair, ha set out to investigate, and met Miss Corry returning. The two returned and Lysons was finally assisted back to the Hut, where medical attention was later given, the services of a visiting doctor being obtained.
